For Students and Faculty
Application Deadline: Monday, 1 April 2024
Apply for a SEAC Field Research Grant
SEAC will award annually a small number of summer or sabbatical fieldwork grants for faculty, and predissertation/dissertation research grants (which may include language training) for graduate students. Awards will be for up to $5,000. We welcome proposals that address academic research projects in Southeast Asia, as well as those that address (or also address) course-development. Projects may be in any discipline and on any topic, but the link to Southeast Asia, and the need for travel there, should be clear. Recipients must be faculty, researchers, or students at a SUNY or CUNY institution at the time of the research in question. Funds should be expended by Summer 2024 (though extensions may be possible).
Selection will be by a panel of SUNY and CUNY faculty.
To apply for a research grant, submit the following here:
Research proposal (3-4 pages)
Briefly sketch the project as a whole; if these funds would support only one portion of the research, identify which part
Address your preparation/skills to conduct the project as described, including requisite language facility, if applicable
Note relevant prior experience in Southeast Asia (e.g., research, teaching, professional work)
Make sure the link with Southeast Asia, and the need for travel, is clear
Budget, explaining any non-obvious expenses
List other funding for which you have applied (or can access) or will apply for this project
Current CV
Graduate students only: transcript (unofficial is fine)
Application deadline: Monday, 1 April 2024. Awardees will be notified by 15 April 2024.
Please be advised that grant disbursement may be on a reimbursement basis, requiring receipts.
